I have waited and waited for Blue October to put out a new album and finally my prayers are answered! This album rocks the house, per usual for these guys! They are amazing and I cant wait to see them in Orlando next month!

I own all previous Blue October works and attend most of their Texas shows, so I think it fair to consider myself a loyal fan. What has attracted me to this band all along, is absent in this new effort.

“Approaching Normal”, for me, is the last thing an artist wants to do. To become mundane, commonplace, bland, one of the corwd, is exactly what I am NOT looking for in the music I add to my vast library. To me this latest effort is an attempt to walk away from true “Blue” fans and seek out the mainstream, pop radio listener.

  3. Many songs that Blue October and company have wrote, have helped me through many hard times in my life. I’m a big fan of the band, but this cd was not worth the wait. It falls very short, and doesn’t even come close to what Foiled is.

There are a few songs that I like, but nothing I love. It just seems like Justin Furstenfeld didn’t put as much feeling into it as the older cds. I understand that the man feels better about himself, but I felt that Foiled and History For Sale had some much feeling behind it. The words seemed so thought out and right. Approaching Normal didn’t feel this way to me. I felt the songs were just kinda of half way done.

I heard Dirt Room when it came out and enjoyed it, I also heard a song called Graceful Dancing which I couldn’t stop listening to for a week, and hearing that song got me really pumped for Approaching Normal.

If you are a big fan of the band, and have followed them through every cd, then by all means buy the cd, and give the band your money, if not I would go into the past and look up Foiled, and History For Sale. Sorry guys I just didn’t do it for me. Foiled was to great for a follow up like this.

I am very pleased with the sound of this record. Blue October has really evolved their sound in the right direction. This album is certainly not lacking in depth and emotion. I really like how it takes you on an odyssey of human emotions… ranging from anger to complete pure happiness! They really did great in the studio with the familiar track “Weight of the World,” a definite fan favorite. “Dirt Room” is fast and heavy. All the instruments shine through on this album in perfect melody! “Say It” is a riveting jam! “Kangaroo Cry” is just perfect. This album is a must! I know it is early in the year, but this album could turn out to be one of the best of 2009!!!

  5. Blue October has done it again people! They have managed to out do themselves once again. This cd is amazing, Justin shows the love for his daughter and for those that he was not able to be with. I completely relate to this album!
