Drake Bell would like to take some time and tell you what he really wants to say, or at least that’s what he sings on “Rusted Silhouette,” one of the thoroughly charming pop tunes he glides through on this, his major-label debut. What he put thought into saying on It’s Only Time isn’t exactly earth-shattering–the teen-targeted, relationship stuff he’s spouting has been set forth a million different ways before. But there’s something in Bell’s punched-up delivery and the sunniness of his Beatles-inspired music that compels the helpless listener–even if she’s not 11, even if she’s never heard of his Nickelodeon TV show Drake & Josh–to keep humming along. That something is charisma. Not only does Bell have excellent hair, as throngs of swollen-hearted admirers have observed on fan sites, he also has a regular-dude persona he’s skilled at channeling with just his voice. He’s the guy every guy wants, or wanted, to be in high school: cool, chummy, a babe magnet. Former geeks and goths may take issue, but expect an eventual conversion. It’s Only Time, most likely, and Bell knows it. –Tammy La Gorce

It’s an okay 1st album. I bought it for my son who watches Drake and Josh on Disney. It sounds pretty much like you’d expect a Disney pop star to sound. My son ( age 10 ) likes it okay but still prefers the more mainstream bands of today.

I am a 45 yr old mom that enjoys watching Drake and Josh with my 16 ,13, 9 and 5 yr old children. My 13 yr old daughter has been waiting for this cd to come out…we were so disappointed when she started reading the lyrics to the first song that was “suggestive” of him sleeping with someone and waking up next to them. I wasnt expecting something like this since he is still considered a Nickolodeon star. I thought he would be more mindful of his audience and not have songs with lyrics youth shouldnt be singing. All the songs on his show are fine. My daughter also read me some lyrics that have … in place of words. We dont listen to profanity and I dont want me or my children singing songs (no matter how “catchy” they sound)about being immoral or with profanity.
I gave my daughter the money she spent on it and we are throwing this away.
We will be more careful to look the lyrics up online since you cant take cd’s back once they’ve been opened.

Not a bad cd, but why is it that he feels the need to put a big top interlude in the bridge of almost any songs, with telephonic voice filters, xylophones, and cat and dog noises? WTF?

This album is great musically, however lyrically, it is somewhat inapropriate. I was happy to find that Drakes first album was very clean and had no suggestions of anything lewd. But in the FIRST SONG of this album, there is already questionable content. I quote “and when
you’re creeping out of bed I sneak a peek to see just what you were wearing last night or what was
leftover from ripping off our clothes.” I also liked the first album better musically. My suggestion: get the first album, Telegraph before they are all gone.

Very catchy, very gifted. At least at following the Jellyfish blueprint. If Jellyfish were still a viable band this would be a good diversion but would still leave me hungry for the real deal. However, in their abscence I am happy when someone at least tries their hand at power pop. The first 3 songs are great, as good as Sturmer and company. The rest of the album is descent but a bit of a drop off. Overall I gave it a 4 based on the 3 great songs and the overall effort. This will do until Jason Falkner does something new.
