Album Description
2009 debut from the young multi-talented singer, musician and Usher’s teen prot‚g‚. An old soul is the last thing you would expect to find inside Justin Bieber. But all it takes is one listen to the 15-year-old Soul-singing phenomenon to realize that he is light-years ahead of his manufactured Pop peers. The album features production from The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. The first single, ‘One Time,’ produced by Tricky, is about one of Justin’s favorite topics, puppy love. Usher joins Justin on ‘First Dance,’ where the two share verses on a song that Bieber describes as ”a slow groovy song that people can dance to.” On the Midi-Mafia-produced ‘Down To Earth,’ Justin digs deep to talk about growing up. ‘Bigger’ finds the teenage singer maturing at a steady rate while motivating his listeners to strive for their goals.

My World is a very good cd. Love Justin Bieber, voice, his vocals are great, the two videos, are very nice, when you play, the cd, on your computer. I can see why, the girls, would love, this 15 year old teenager. He looks great. Five star all the way. I bought nine, cd’s so far. I’ve given some cd’s away, to women friends, and the first thing, they say is how cute, and good looking, Justin is. The cd also has a poster, of Justin. Great value, a must buy. I believe Justin Bieber, will be a star , for a long time.

i can’t believe people think this boy has talent he sounds like a girl, his song are boring and every song on the album almost sounds the same, why would someone wanna hear a little kid sing about love and sex, justin has not even reached puberty yet . once he hits puberty his career will be over. if justin wasn’t cute people wouldn’t even pay attention to his music, this is the sad reality

This CD has a number of catchy songs in its seven cuts and for the most part is fine for the intended audience of young listeners–but for some reason the teen artist feels he needs to push the limit a bit with some suggestive lyrics. “Love Me” is possibly the best song on the CD but it is very adult–he took a previously recorded hook and changed the words to actually make it more adult, including “Say that you’ll do me.” There’s also the slow dance song “First Dance” (featuring Usher) that is just plain too seductive for little girls (and includes an anti-parent lyric). Best idea for parents of younger kids is to buy the individual cuts of “One Time,” “Favorite Girl,” and “One Less Lonely Girl.” It’s a little sad that a good singer like Bieber has to do grownup lyrics when he is just a kid who thanks Jesus on his liner notes. Like Britney, Hilary Duff and now Miley, there seems to be a need for young pop stars to have adult lyrics to draw a broad audience, but it would be nice if for once an entire CD was clean enough for parents to not have to cringe in parts. This is certainly no Justin Timberlake CD, but you can tell he is headed in that direction.

It is rare that the ‘mature’ listener is truly wooed to buy an artist under the age of say 21 because the ‘maturity’ factor is often lax. Justin Bieber, obviously doesn’t try to sing songs beyond his age, but the maturity that he executes them is quite prodigious for one who is only 15 years old. From the first time I heard the Christopher “Tricky” Stewart produced “One Time”, I knew that this ‘tween’ had something special. With phenomenal pipes to back his ’squeaky clean’ persona, Bieber is destined to be a superstar. These seven songs on My World are a fine preview of what is to come on a full length Justin Bieber album and let me tell you folks, it is very promising.
“One Time” was a brilliant choice for a first single that appeals to all ages. The songwriting is catchy, the production sound, and Bieber’s adolescent vocals are spot on. Even more perfect, the producers (one being Usher) don’t try to make Bieber out to be older than he is, which bows in his favor. Follow-up “Favorite Girl” is equally infectious, though it never trumps the valedictory “One Time”. The ballad “Down To Earth” is a big song, but Justin handles it extremely well making it sound as convincing as the two mid-tempo jams that precede it. “Bigger” is schmaltzy pop at its best, but as corny as it may be, it suits Bieber extremely well. Even better is second single “One Less Lonely Girl”, in which Bieber is paired with Stargate (at least that who it sounds like). The Usher pairing “First Dance” is beautiful by all means and the production is among the best of the entire EP. Closer “Love Me” ends the album on a fun note, again affirming that Bieber is indeed still a kid, but a kid who has a phenomenal talent. Think back to Chris Brown’s hit “Run It” when he was only 16.
No quibbles here – I think Bieber is on the right track and his EP My World confirms that notion. 4 stars.
