I would love to see the musical Rock of Ages. I have liked Constantine Maroulis since I saw him on American Idol and I have to admit that having him in this role was quite honestly, typecasting. While the entire musical seems quite cheesy, I enjoy every minute of it. You must have a love of 80s music in order to appreciate this soundtrack. I'm sure that I'd enjoy seeing the actual musical because you would have to experience the full range of cheesiness, but the soundtrack comes close!

I was excited to hear this album. I knew it had a lot of hits from the 80's when I was growing up so I knew I just HAD to get this album.

I loved the songs on the CD. They were all my favorites growing up. Some of the songs they did a great job on, some just didn't sound right. I wasn't too keen on the combination songs either.

I guess you need to see the Broadway show to truly appreciate this soundtrack. There was a lot of talking on the CD and I had no idea what was going on or what the scene was about. I think if I saw the play FIRST I would have appreciated it a lot more.

It was OK. It's not my favorite CD but it's not my least favorite either.

I was hoping for a really hard hitting blow you mind musical. What I got was Jewel sitting in a corner and singing freakin' lullabyes. This musical may come off well live, however the OOMPH is gone once it is on CD. Too bad really, was REALLY looking forward to this one. :(

OK, I'm 64 years old and have been buying musicals since I was 9 years old. Not just Broadway but shows from around the world, TV, Soundtracks, studio casts and score for record. I have been told by some very reliable sources that I have one of the "top 10" collections in the United States.
It appears that anything can be produced on Broadway now and since all the real composers are gone, (there are a few left) any type of music can be called "Musical." I don't hate rock music and am very fond of many rock scores for the stage. This just doesn't happen to be one of them. I suppose now I am going to have to look forward to the ultimate "dragging the bottom of the barrel", the Rap Musical. Since I buy them all, good and tragically bad, I will add it to my collection. Hopefully "Rock of Ages" will not be filmed so I will be obliged to buy the Soundtrack and the DVD. And by the way, I couldn't even finish listening to the entire CD. It will be catalogued and filed alphabetically in the collection, never to be touched again.
Of course if you love Heavy Metal music, by all means buy it. The above is just my personal opinion.

This godawful CD has the affrontary to call itself an Orignal Broadway Cast Recording. Okay...and I'm Andrew Lloyd Weber. The shlock-rock used to "musicalize" this abomination was retro and trashy 25 years ago. Trash-equals-trash-equals-trash, case closed. You don't get more from glossing it up with showbiz hijinx. The cast is a virtually complete washout. Constantine Maroulis knows how to belt but he has all the nuance of a jackhammer. Amy Spanger's enemic vocals are stretched so thin that you wait for a complete breakdown...which is probably preferable to what remains. The rest of the cast does their glowgel-headed best to screech and rant through every synthed-up anthem you thought you'd never have to tolerate again...no such luck. A Broadway musical based on '80s pop-rock anthems...did we ever think we'd live to see the day? Total wreckage.
