  1. Ever since Britney came out on the scene I’ve been a HUGE fan of hers. Well 10 yrs. later Ms. Spears is still on top of the charts (after going through a huge meltdown & coming back on top) and I love her now more than ever before. Well, enough about my love for her let’s talk about her 2nd greatest hits album entitled “The Singles Collection.” This collection collects Britney’s greatest hits such as “…Baby One More Time,” “Toxic,” “Piece of Me,” “Womanizer,” and her newest hit “3,” and is meant to celebrate Britney’s 10 yrs. in the music industry.

As much as I love Britney I will say that this is a better greates hits album than her last one “My Perogative.” This is due to the fact that I hated the cover she did of Boby Brown’s song “My Perogative,”(It wasn’t ok when Britney did it & it wasn’t ok when Brown did it to begin with), and it’s really looking at her hits from her last two albums “Blackout”(my personal favorite)and “Circus.”

As far as what I love about this album I’m extremely happy with the fact that she recognized the song “Born to Make You Happy,” as a hit (I loved this song as a kid and I still love it today), and I like the fact that she put the remixes of certain songs like “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” and “Boys,” with Pharrell Williams on the album.

As far as what I dislike about the album, I really don’t like the fact that Britney didn’t add any other extra tracks except for “3.” In “My Perogative” Britney gave us the title track and 2 new songs “(I’ve Just Begun)Havin My Fun,” and “Do Somethin’”(a track that was later released as a single w/a music video).

In Overall I love this album and it is my favorite Britney Spears Greatest Hits album. If this album doesen’t do it for you then you might wanna try “Britney Spears Greatest Hits: My Perogative,” or wait until 11/24/09 for the ultimate fan box set (which I will be getting also) or pre-order or order the UK/European version of “The Singles Collection.” The UK/European version of this album contains the song “I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman,” and has a DVD of Britney’s Greatest Music Videos (and Yes it is available also on Amazon.com).

    Love the album, Love Britney

Keep up the good work Britney!!

  2. I want to make one point clear before I start my review. I know Britney has her critics. I know Britney’s music has its own critics. You will probably see review after review criticizing Britney’s personal life and calling her music crap, etc. This isn’t gonna be that kind of review. I’m looking at both of these sets from a fair perspective. Let me start off by saying that I AM a Britney fan. I’ve got all of her original albums, first greatest hits album, the remix album. This is where a problem sets in. This cd collection is aimed towards fans, correct? Don’t you think the standard edition cd is a bit of a rip off for the fans? I know for a fact that I have every song from the standard edition of the singles collection on my other Britney albums–except for her current song “3″. To buy a cd for one song is absolutely ridiculous in so many ways. It’s the biggest rip off I’ve ever seen.

Let me put up a review for the jumbo fan pack that’s also being released. I feel that the jumbo pack is just as big of a rip off as the other cd. You know what the better alternative would’ve been? Put all the songs on that jumbo pack onto a set with only 2-3 cds instead of releasing that one standard edition cd set. Let the superdiehard fans that want all the artwork to buy the expensive pack. Let fans that might not have the remixes/bsides have an opportunity to buy those songs on a cheaper scale. I have no need for 29/30 discs laying around the house. I sure as hell don’t have the need to shell out money for the standard edition in order to get one new song. AVOID THIS RIPOFF OF A COLLECTION! Buy the other Britney albums if you don’t already have those in your Britney collection.

A total waste of time and money to release this. Why would people buy something that they already have?! It’s NOTHING new. Brit’s management made a big no-no with this

Music: 4.5 stars; Compilation: 4 stars; Economic Value: 3.5 stars

In 2004 Britney released “Greatest Hits: My Prerogative”, covering many singles of her first 4 albums (more on that later). Now 5 years later, after a meltdown (or two or three) in her career, and 2 more studio albums under her belt, comes this compilation.

“The Singles Album” (17 tracks; 61 min.) starts off with her new single (and only new track on here) “3″, which I don’t find the irresitable stopmer that so many others seem to think (but that’s just me, it reached No. 1 on Billboard for some reason). It is then followed by 10 singles from the fist 4 albums that also appear on the 2004 compilation. Two singles from “Blackout” and four singles from “Circus” complete this collection. Overall, you can’t argue with the music, most of it is pretty stellar. And thankfully this compilation plays chronologically after the new track “3″, which was not the case with the 2004 compilation (a major flaw).

Yet this is not THE singles compilation, obviously, as Britney has charted 23 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 charts… At 61 min, there was clearly room for at least 4 or 5 more songs on here, so where are “Do Somethin’” and “Break the Ice” (to just name those two latter day songs) or throw in a few singles that charted outside the US (such as “I Love Rock and Roll”, a major hit in the UK)? But comparing the 2004 compilation against this one, this one is an improvement as it brings a decent overview from Britney’s 10 years of singles (even if it’s still incomplete).

If you don’t care for Teeny Bop

    But you dig Techno-Pop

You should try the Brit Bot!

I am no Teen Bop fan, but I picked up Britney’s last collection because of Oops!… and Toxic. Those were the only 2 songs I would listen to. This CD basically drops some of her earlier Teen Bop songs and adds a bunch of tracks from her last 2 albums, plus her new single. Some critics trash her “Brit Bot” enhanced vocals, but these additional tracks rock! These are heavy-duty techno pop … kicking songs like Womanizer, Circus, Gimme More, Pieces of Me, 3, etc. You don’t have to like Britney to like this music. She’s only singing, and that is heavily enhanced most of the time. The real magic here comes from the musicians, composers and writers that put together some extremely innovative, creative and, most importantly, AWESOME music. Great CD!
